Using edit mode:

The edit mode in Revenge of the Ketchup is integrated right into the game.  Right now, to enter the edit mode, simply hit the E key.  Once in edit mode, you must use both the keyboard and the mouse to design a map.  The keyboard is used to place tiles, and the mouse is used to place dynamic objects.

Placing tiles:  To place tiles, use the keyboard to move around the pink rectangle.  This represents where you will place the tile.  The currently selected tile is displayed in the top right of the screen.  Use the PgUp and PgDown keys to change the tile type.  Hit the Delete key to clear the tile under the rectangle. It is tedious to place the tiles so that they always look right, so there is a clean-up tool that automatically changes the tiles in the map so that they fit together properly.  There are a few tiles that are not affected by the clean-up tool, and will not be changed automatically.  These tiles are the half-tiles that ketchup can jump through from below, the ice tiles, and the spike tiles:

The cleanup tool:  To use the clean-up tool, simply hit the C key.  This tool will go over the entire map and change the tiles so that they fit together better, and look good without the tedium of doing it yourself.  It will change all tiles on the map with the exception of the ones shown above.

Layers:  There are two layers of tiles that can be placed. The first layer is the one you will work on almost all of the time, but the second layer is used for created tiles that ketchup will walk behind, and not be effected by.  This is useful for creating secret passages.  To change to layer 2, simply hit the 2 key (1 one key brings you back to layer 1).  Working with layer 2, is just the same as working on layer 1, except you probably shouldn’t use the clean-up tool, as it will make all your secret passages look stupid.

Placing objects:  Objects are everything in the game that is not a tile.  They are usually animated, and can interact with ketchup.  Enemies, pickups, and decorative objects are examples of map objects.  You place map objects using the mouse.  The current map object is hovering translucently next to the mouse pointer.  Just click the right mouse button to place the object.  Objects that have multiple movement points (that is objects that move and need for you to set bounds for their movement) require that you click and hold the right mouse button when placing the object. While the button is clicked, drag the mouse to position the second movement point.  Then release the mouse button to place the object.  To cycles through the map objects that can be placed, use the Home and End keys.  To move an object (or one of its movement points), click inside the pink rectangle surround the object with the right mouse button to pick it up, and then drag it to its new position. Release the button to place it again.  When an object is ‘picked up’, hit the Delete key to delete the object.
